Youth Summer Book Read & Cross-generational Gathering: “How the Word is Passed” | Sunday, August 16

Attention youth (6th through 12th grade) who love a good book and great conversation with friends. You’re invited to join us this summer as we dig into the youth version of the book, “How the Word is Passed”. This book, written just for youth, takes readers on a fascinating tour to places around the United States and the world to understand the history of slavery and invites conversation about how this history shapes our modern-day dynamics. (Trust us, it's a really good read!!)
Registered youth will receive a free copy of the book to read this summer. Then, join us as we gather on Sunday, August 16, for games and conversation led by UMCL’s Justice & Equity Committee to enjoy time together as we reflect on the book and think about what it means to live our lives as Christians.
After our conversation, we’ll join the adult group (engaged in their own discussion around the book) for a cross-generational luncheon and share viewpoints.
This event is open to the public and 6th through 12th graders are encouraged to attend.
