FAQ’s

How old does my child need to be to participate in VBS? How do I know if my child is ready?

  • Children as young as 3 or 4 through fifth grade are invited to join us and activities are designed to be developmental for age groups. Little ones should be socially and physically ready to attend.
  • All children must be fully independently potty trained.

Do I have to be a member of UMCL for my child/grandchild to attend?

  • No! We welcome children from anywhere—no membership or Biblical knowledge required.
  • Your child won’t be alone; VBS is one of UMCL’s biggest outreach events of the year with children from across Lake County and beyond attending.

What should my children wear and bring?

  • Dress your child for fun and the weather. Weather permitting, we’ll be outside for games, and each day includes crafting and movement—so dress for joyful messes and praise-filled wiggling!
  • We’ll provide water, snacks, and everything else your child needs.

What happens at the VBS Celebration during worship on Sunday, July 19?

  • As a part of our 9:30 a.m. worship service, we celebrate the week and all we’ve learned together. Children and our crew of volunteers share the songs and dances they’ve learned.
  • Together, we thank God for the blessing of our children and pray over children’s continued growth.
  • The service lasts about one hour. Learn more about Sunday worship at UMCL.

Are there scholarships available?

  • We understand that it is difficult for some families to afford the cost of VBS for their child. Therefore, we have a limited number of scholarships available to those who request assistance. To inquire about a scholarship, please email our director contact, Annemarie Barry prior to registering for the program.

My child has sensory sensitivities. Can they attend?

  • Our day does involve plenty of activities like music, motion, and messy crafts. For noise sensitivities consider sending your child with noise-blocking headphones. To discuss your child’s special needs contact, Annemarie Barry prior to registering.
