Faith in Action: Helping to Feed Our Neighbors

On Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, members of the UMCL Mission Team gathered at the Northern Illinois Food Bank – North Suburban Center for a hands-on morning of service and fellowship.
Together, volunteers sorted, inspected, and repacked bulk apples into individual 5-pound bags to help provide fresh food for local families in need.
“This activity is a wonderful opportunity for the church to gather for fellowship and a morning of packing food for those in our community who are food insecure,” shared Candice Tonon, Mission Team Chair.
The impact of the morning was incredible. With 30 volunteers working together, the group packed 11,500 pounds of apples — enough to help provide approximately 9,500 meals for neighbors across our community.
The UMCL Mission Team hosts volunteer opportunities several times throughout the year, and everyone is welcome to participate. Matthew 25:35–40
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
