UMCL Peace with Justice Sunday, May 31, 2026

UMCL joins churches around the world Sunday, May 31 to recognize Peace with Justice Sunday. Peace with Justice Sunday is a time for us to renew our commitment to transforming the world through justice and reconciliation. As a part of the broader United Methodist Church, we have long been committed to transforming the world through acts of peace, reconciliation, and justice.

Some of the ways UMCL works to support peace with justice right here in our local communities include:

  • Financial support, space donations, and volunteering to local organizations that help families and individuals in need - Examples include our biannual Rummage Sale, which raises funds to support nonprofit organizations serving those in need; our mission trip groups, who travel to assist communities impacted by natural disasters; and UMCL volunteers, who collect food and serve at area distribution centers to support neighbors facing food insecurity.
  • Learning opportunities and programming through our Justice and Equity Committee to help address local inequities - Included movie nights and book studies that encourage reflection and discussion around social justice issues and poverty; local forums surrounding needs of our communities' immigrant families; and participation in the Collective Action to Build Community which hosts social justice educational events across the Chicagoland area.
  • Leadership on area task forces and organizations committed to supporting peace and the needs of those across Lake County - We are a founding congregation engaged with Lake County United working to address affordable housing, and we are a part of the Lake County Community Foundation's coalition leading countywide coordination of non-profit services.

In addition, our donations united with others on Peace with Justice Sunday, support programs that work to reduce conflict, promote fairness, and create lasting change including:

  • Sustaining grants that support minority local church communities
  • Networks that work toward social advocacy and action

On this special Sunday, members of our Justice and Equity Committee will lead us as we renew our commitment to follow Christ’s lead, reducing violence, advocating for human rights, and creating sustainable solutions for peace.

Join us for worship in-person or online on Sunday, May 31 as we make a difference through prayer and giving.

Join us as we support peace with justice initiatives. Give online.
