“My Omaha” Video, Discussion, & Zoom Presentation | Sunday, September 20

Participate in this experience to screen a new documentary, "My Omaha," followed by a live Zoom interview with two of the film's protagonists--filmmaker Nick Beaulieu and activist Leo Louis II--and then join us for a delicious dinner and engaging discussion.

In the 2025 documentary “My Omaha”, 32-year-old filmmaker Nick Beaulieu and fierce local activist Leo Louis II are determined to understand how racial and political forces are colliding in the white suburbs and the Black community of North Omaha. In parallel, Nick explores the increasingly tense relationship he has with his father Randy following his stage 4 cancer diagnosis. While confronting the reality of his father’s impending death and their uncompromising differences, Nick searches for the deeper truths of what their father-son relationship says about Omaha and the country at large.

"A Time for Burning" and "My Omaha" were paired together as the featured films for the 2026 discussion series because, though separated by more than 50 years, they explore many of the same questions about race, faith, community, and the search for understanding. These films offer a rare opportunity to reflect on both continuity and change — to consider what has shifted in conversations about race across generations and what remains unresolved. Each film challenges viewers to examine not only society, but their assumptions, relationships, fears, and hopes. The discussions that follow are an essential part of this series, creating space for honest dialogue, deeper listening, and shared reflection about the ongoing search for justice, understanding, and common ground.
