UMCL Volunteers Serve at Midwest Mission

UMCL volunteers putting together health kits at Midwest Mission

In late April, eight women from UMCL packed their cars with donations and headed out to Midwest Mission, ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

Midwest Mission is in Pawnee, Illinois, just southeast of Springfield. It's a humanitarian ministry with a straightforward mission: take donated goods, turn them into kits, and get those kits into the hands of people in crisis. Volunteers there sort, pack, and ship supplies that support disaster relief, health, education, and microbusinesses, locally, nationally, and around the world.

Over two days, the volunteers from UMCL jumped into several different projects. Some sewed pads for personal dignity kits. Others checked the contents of personal hygiene kits to make sure everything was accounted for. Vitamin packs were counted for rice meals, wood was cut for desks, desks were built, and school bags were inspected. It was a little bit of everything.

UMCL is grateful for the chance to send volunteers to Midwest Mission and to be part of this kind of work. It's a good reminder that being a blessing to others doesn't always look big — sometimes it looks like spending an afternoon sorting supplies, building desks, and sewing items alongside people who care about the same things you do.
