July Mission Moment: UMCL Supports Lake County Haven to Uplift Women Experiencing Crisis
UMCL’s Second Mile Giving program invites our church community to donate above and beyond their standard tithes to support mission-focused organizations locally and worldwide. This month we’re celebrating one of the organizations we support through Second Mile Giving, Lake County Haven.
What is Lake County Haven?
Lake County Haven is a local social-service agency that is dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless women and children. The mission of Lake County Haven is to empower homeless women and their children to achieve permanent, independent living by providing temporary housing along with professional services.
Lake County Haven has two homes located within the Libertyville, IL, community, each housing 10 women. While here, the residents receive training on life skills such as budgeting, resume writing, and parenting and help finding employment.
Graduates of this program may continue to receive housing through the Transitional Shelter Program. This program is an important middle step between transitional shelter and independent living. Here the residents pay rent and continue to receive the same high-quality case management services.
Through these steps, Lake County Haven strives to support residents to achieve long-term financial stability, employment, and domestic stability, positively influencing the futures of their children, and breaking their families’ intergenerational cycle of violence, addiction, and poverty.
How does UMCL Support Lake County Haven?
UMCL has been a long time supporter of Lake County Haven thanks to the generous donation from our church through our Second Mile Giving initiative.
The UMCL Missions Committee extends its sincere appreciation to all those at UMCL who contribute to Second Mile Giving. THANK YOU!!
