Adult Summer Book Read & Cross-generational Gathering: “How the Word is Passed” | Sunday, August 16

Love a good book and great conversation? You’re invited to join us this summer as we dig into the book, “How the Word is Passed”, by Clint Smith. This book takes readers on a fascinating tour to places around the United States and the world to understand the history of slavery and invites conversation about how this history shapes our modern-day dynamics. The author uses interviews and storytelling to shine light on parts of history forgotten. (Trust us, it's a great read!)
Books will be available for purchase in the UMCL Community Room or pick one up at your favorite bookseller. Then, join us as we gather on Sunday, August 16, for conversation led by UMCL’s Justice & Equity Committee to enjoy time together as we reflect on the book and think about what it means to live our lives as Christians.
After our conversation, we’ll join the youth group (engaged in their own discussion around the book) for a cross-generational luncheon and share viewpoints.
Note: Some may have read this book and participated in a spring discussion group. All adults are welcome to read the book and come for the discussion, whether or not you participated in the spring discussion.
